Frequently Asked Questions

When does the plumbing portion of the project start?

We are typically both the first and last trades onsite.

We begin with any required underground work. This often includes selective demolition of the basement slab, installation of new drain and vent lines, and proper re-pouring of concrete once testing is complete.

After underground plumbing is finished, we temporarily demobilize while framing is completed. During this phase, we coordinate layout with the framing and HVAC teams early to prevent conflicts and reduce the need for unnecessary bulkheads or lowered ceilings.

Once HVAC rough-in is complete, we return to install drain, vent, and waterline systems, set tubs where required, and prepare the system for testing.

After passing inspection and pressure testing through the City of Toronto portal, we demobilize again and return at the finishing stage to complete trim installations, fixture hook-ups, and final testing.

What is rough-in plumbing?

Rough-in plumbing is the foundational installation of drain, waste, vent, and water supply systems before insulation and drywall. It must be installed to code, properly sloped, pressure tested, and ready for inspection prior to final finishes.

A properly planned rough-in directly impacts ceiling height, fixture placement, and long-term system performance.

Do you handle basement suite rough-ins?

Yes. We specialize in basement rough-ins for legal secondary suites, full basement renovations, and additions. Our installations are designed to pass inspection and integrate cleanly with finished layouts while preserving usable ceiling height wherever possible.

Do you provide documentation and inspection support?

Yes. All rough-ins are pressure tested and installed to Ontario Building Code requirements. We coordinate inspections through the City of Toronto portal and ensure systems are fully compliant prior to moving into finishing stages.

Will you coordinate with other trades?

Absolutely. Early coordination is critical to a clean rough-in.

We review layout with other contractors at the start of the project to align fixture locations, framing considerations, beam runs and HVAC routing. This proactive communication helps eliminate conflicts, reduce bulkheads and maintain ceiling heights in the finished space.

How long does a rough-in plumbing installation take?

Timeline depends on project size, how many fixtures and complexity. Most basement rough-ins can be completed within 1-3 days including underground and testing, while full custom home rough-ins vary based on square footage and scope. We provide a clear timeline during quoting and align with the overall construction schedule.
